A space in which to play, and to show my personal view of the world. It is my fascination with everything around me; people and faces, cities and landscapes. As a dreamer, the mind wanders and wants to explore spaces visible and invisible. There is this energy all around us, and I wondered how to translate it into a photograph, knowing that we can see only a tiny fraction of the visible spectrum. My photos have a strong sense of graphic and order, the poetic dance of all things in the picture, every detail counts. I'm often using the camera in nontraditional ways, a tool normally used to copy the world most accurately. Playing with light, and the fascination of manipulating it . Using gels, lightbreaking and reflecting objects, shooting out of focus. Influenced by painting, strong cinematography, and spirituality, in the sense of learning of who we are and what we are doing here. My answer, so far, is to be curious, enjoy the magic, and create.
I will be presenting sets of images, and single images, on various surfaces, to showcase the options of printing. Variable sizes will be available upon request. Framed or print only, on canvas, metal plate, fabric, and traditional baryta and photo paper.
I was born in 1971 in Munich, Germany. I grew up in a working class, high rise building, just outside of Munich. They called me Dreamer as a child, always getting lost in the world of thought and sight.
My first interest was drawing. I copied things I saw around me in a naturalistic way, always in pencil. After that came Graphic Design and the play of space, words and photos. So the path was set.
At 15 I got my first camera and I put down pencils for good. My other passion, from 15 on, was, and still is, windsurfing. It brought me around the world, and it cultivated my lifestyle, my photography, and the idea of life on the beach.
I studied Photography in Munich in my early twenties. I started school three days after finishing a nine week windsurf trip to Fuertevenutra. Walking barefoot into the school , starting to grow dreadlocks from the trip to the sand and salt, it all came together.
My final Work project to finish school was another amazing windsurf trip, documenting my friends, our life and sport. Thats what I wanted to reflect in my work.
Then came the interest in fashion and the itch to move away from Munich. Miami was my first stop. I was 26 years old. There I learned the business side of photography.
While in Miami, I fell in love with my wife, gonca gul, a fashion designer. We got married, bought and renovated our first house, sold it, and moved on to Brooklyn, New York. I was hungry for more. For the following 17 years, I worked for advertising clients all over the world.
We developed our love for Costa Rica while living still in Miami. The idea of living by the beach followed us both throughout our lives. We bought a finca 15 years ago, which we left untouched for the first 12 years.
Splitting our time between New York and Nosara, we started to bring all our dreams and vision together to build our lives off the grid, on Dreamland. When the house was finished, we moved to Nosara permanently. In 2015, La CASA came to life. Restaurant, Bar and Boutique. My dream of showing my work was calling for a space, which came to life 2016 with the opening of GALLERY INTELMANN at LA CASA in Nosara
. And this is my story.
